Careful what you pray for:
Lure is so bizarre that it often seems to be a self-parody, but somehow this works for this kind of movie; like the desperate cult leader’s recurring answering machine messages, the audience can never be quite sure what’s meant as a joke and what’s dead serious. Some of the images are quite disturbing, like the hero fantasizing about committing suicide in various horrific ways. A vivid and overwhelming work of art.
